The Ultima II Patch v1.3 (2001-01-22)

Ultima II was designed a long time ago, so it is not prepared
for today's fast computers. Also, it used a boot disk, so a Quit
function was not included. This patch fixes that, by:

1) slowing the game down to a playable speed by using the internal
PC timer. This means that even if you own a Pentium XI 43 Ghz, you still
will be able to play at the right speed.
You can still use Ctrl-<left arrow> and Ctrl-<right arrow> to slow the game
down and speed it up (respectively).

2) including a Quit function (Ctrl-Q).

3) including a Load game function (Ctrl-R), so that you don't have
to quit and restart to load a saved game.

Fixed the delay for choosing a direction (eg. when attacking).


changes from version 1.1:
--------------------------

When you loaded a game from somewhere other than Earth, the game would
use the alien map for Earth. (Only with galactic map patch installed).
This bug is now fixed.


Installing the patch
-----------------------

To install the patch, simply copy u2-patch.exe to your Ultima II directory,
and run u2-patch.exe.

The program will then determine which version of Ultima II you have, by
identifying what patches you have already applied. If it finds that it
can properly apply the patch, it will do so.
If not, you will need to either remove some of the other patches by
re-installing the game, or not use this patch.
(I suggest the former :-)

This patch can be installed without any problems if you have any (or none)
of the following patches:

- Galactic map restore patch by Moonstone Dragon
- Divide overflow fix by someone (no name in the readme...) (u2fix.zip)
- The patch already applied in the Ultima Collection edition
  (which is actually the same patch as the Divide overflow fix)
- Colour patch by Linards Ticmanis, Finire Dragon
  (doesn't actually affect the .exe file)

These are all the U2 patches I know of. If you know of any others and my
patch doesn't work with them, please contact me. 

Unfortunately, I can't guarantee that this patch will work with every
version of Ultima II, since I only have two:
- the one on the Encore Ultima 1-6 CD
- the one on the Ultima Collection CD

The patch should work with these editions.
